Insurance
AIs working for QFC firms conducting insurance activities in or from the QFC, will from 2012, under the Regulatory Authority’s T&C Regime, be required to demonstrate knowledge and understanding or insurance regulation and best practice by passing either the Chartered Insurers Institute (CII) Award in General Insurance (AGI) examination or the CII’s Award in Financial Planning (AFP) examination. AIs working in general insurance would be expected to sit the AGI examination; AIs working in life Insurance would be required to sit the AFP examination. The CII examinations do not specifically require knowledge of the QFC regulations however they do test fundamental principles of international best insurance practise and are used as the core component of the training and competence frameworks mandated by a number of international regulatory authorities.
In certain circumstances other qualifications may be regarded as an equivalent qualification and the Regulatory Authority will not require AIs to sit the CII examination.
Successful completion of the AGI or AFP examinations enables the usage of the CII (Award) designation and contributes credits towards the Diploma and Advanced Diploma examinations.
Further information about these examinations can be found on the CII's website. The examination can be tested locally through the Qatar Finance Business Acadamy.
